PRACTITIONER PANEL

Panel membership application

RECAI Labs staffs client engagements from a curated panel of AI researchers, faculty, graduate-level specialists and senior engineers. This form establishes your technical profile, your real availability, and the conflict, IP and privacy position we need before you can be placed on a client project.

Panel work is contract work alongside your existing role, not employment.

  • Time About 15–20 minutes
  • Reply Every applicant hears back within two business days, including those we cannot take on
  • Required Fields marked *

Before you start

Your resume or CV *

Required. Most of what follows is there to tell us what a CV cannot, so we need both. PDF, DOC or DOCX, up to 10 MB.

01

Who you are

Contact details and where the work would be performed. Location matters: some of our clients are Canadian public bodies whose data cannot leave the country.

Where would you physically perform the work? *

Work on public-body engagements must be performed from inside Canada.

Your time zone *
Are you legally entitled to work in Canada as a contractor? *

Google Scholar, ORCID, GitHub, LinkedIn, personal site — one per line.

02

Current position

Your primary role today. Panel members keep their existing appointment; we need to know what it is and what it permits.

Appointment type *
Is your primary role full-time or part-time? *

Supervisors often hold a view on outside consulting. We would rather know now.

03

Technical expertise

Specialisations and self-rated level *

Tick every area you would be comfortable being staffed on, then rate yourself. Level 1: working familiarity. Level 3: you have shipped this unsupervised. Level 5: recognised depth — you teach, publish or set standards in it.

Rate honestly. Projects are staffed to the technical problem, and an overstated level shows up in week two.

Years of hands-on applied experience *
Have you taken a model into production use by people other than yourself? *

What it did, who used it, your role, how it was deployed and maintained.

Domains where you have real working experience

Tick all that apply.

Have you worked with patient-level or other sensitive personal data?

Our educational engagements are sold as vendor-neutral advice. The ability to say no to a method matters here.

04

Track record and verification

Panel admission requires a verified track record, not an asserted one. Give us things we can check.

Peer-reviewed publications

Papers, open-source repositories, released models or datasets, shipped products. Titles plus links.

05

Availability and capacity

The most useful section in this form. Engagements run six to ten weeks with a client demo every week or two, so a steady small commitment is worth more to us than a large unpredictable one.

Hours per week you can commit to panel work *
Would you still commit that in a heavy month of your primary role? *
Basis you are looking for *
Engagement types you would take *

Tick all that apply.

When in a typical week are you available?

Atlantic time. Client demos and working sessions usually fall in business hours.

Availability by day and time of day, Atlantic time
Time of day Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun
Morning 8–12
Afternoon 12–5
Evening 5–9
Notice you need before starting on an engagement *
Typical response time to a message during a working week *

Teaching terms, conference and grant deadlines, thesis milestones, planned leave, fieldwork. Write “none known” if there are none.

06

Conflicts of interest and existing obligations

Disclosure here is not disqualifying. Most of it is manageable once it is known. An undisclosed conflict found mid-engagement is the thing that ends a client relationship.

Read this before answering. Research performed under university employment or funding may be claimed by your institution’s IP policy, and an agreement signed with you alone may then be invalid. If there is any chance your institution has a claim on work you would do for us, say so — we will involve the technology transfer office rather than discover it later.

Does your employer or institution permit paid outside consulting? *
Are you bound by a non-compete, exclusivity, non-solicitation or moonlighting clause? *

Including AI vendors and consultancies. Write “none” if none.

Do you work for or with an AI consultancy, agency or lab that competes with RECAI Labs? *

A named competitor of an employer, a sector you object to on principle, an organisation you have a dispute with. We will respect these without asking why.

07

Privacy, security and compliance

Several of our clients are academic health centres and public bodies. Their obligations flow down to whoever touches the data, including you.

Can you work exclusively within RECAI- or client-provided environments, with Canadian-only data hosting? *
Privacy or research-ethics training completed

Tick all that apply.

Would you complete a criminal record check or vulnerable sector check if a client requires it? *
Are you willing to sign a mutual NDA, and three-party NDAs covering a client’s information? *

08

Contracting and rates

Panel members are contractors. Engagements are quoted to clients as fixed fees, so a rate you can hold matters more than a rate you can quote once.

How would you contract with us? *
Expected hourly rate in CAD *

A lower rate for work with a publication outcome, a premium for on-call, a minimum block size.

Invoicing cadence you prefer
May we profile you to clients during scoping — name, specialisation, verified track record, availability? *
May we name you on a proposal before the engagement is signed? *

09

Declarations

Please confirm each of these *

Information given here is used to assess panel fit, to staff engagements, and — for admitted members — to profile your specialisation to clients during scoping. Nothing is shared outside RECAI Labs and its prospective clients without your agreement at the time. See our Privacy Policy.
